2019-12-19 Orleans Seniors Group Weekly Meeting

Post by bbadmin »

Dear Friends, Greetings!

Announcements:

1. At this meeting, we will be celebrating Christmas with a potluck lunch. This being the last meeting of the month, we are also celebrating birthdays of our members born in December. According to our records, our December born is Chandra Vaidyanathan. Please let me know if I have missed anyone.

2. Holi/Family Day celebration is planned for Feb. 29, 2020 at Rinag Restaurant.

Anyone preparing for a performance at this function, please contact Ms. Archna Abrol at the earliest, to reserve your place in the program. She may be reached at 613-552-1916 or archnaabrol@yahoo.ca.

3. No meeting on Dec. 26, 2019

4. On Jan. 2, 2020, we will be meeting in Room 328 since our usual room (340) is not available.

5. A big 'thank you' to all the ICCC Orleans seniors who contributed with in-kind or monetary donations towards the Christmas Gift Hamper program organized by the students of Gloucester High School for the benefit of needy families. The monetary contributions were used to purchase groceries worth about $64, and along with the other contributions, they were delivered to the school on Dec. 13. The school principal conveyed her heartfelt thank you to all.

Last Meeting - Dec. 12, 2019: About 15 people joined for the meeting. Donations for the Christmas Gift Hamper program were collected. Poetry recital, songs and jokes were enjoyed by everyone.

At a previous meeting on Dec. 5, Amrit discussed an article from the The Globe and Mail, about the link between brain health and physical exercise. It emphasized that exercise can improve memory even in senior years, and a lack of it could result in a steady decline in memory.

Considerations for Food Choices:
While entering your contribution to the lunch, please take into account what other people have already indicated to ensure a good variety in the food. This will assure that we are not getting four rice dishes or as many desserts.

RSVP:
In order to ensure that we have balanced meals please indicate your choice preferably by 5 PM on Wednesday. This will allow time for any adjustments in the menu that may be desirable. As always, if you decide at the last minute to come or bring any guest please feel free, there is always enough food to go around.

Reducing Waste:
Everybody is requested to bring and use their own reusable dishes and take these back home for cleaning. We do have a limited supply of dishes for the guests.

Looking forward to seeing you.

Jagjit
