Fellow Seniors, Greetings!

Announcements:

1. Please note that this will be the usual virtual (Zoom) meeting. At the last meeting there was a discussion on holding the meeting in a park. The intention was that those who are not comfortable with joining in via Zoom, would have a chance to get out of the house and meet other members. However, I have been informed that ICCC would not like to be involved in a meeting other than that via Zoom, at this time. As an alternative, we encourage that all members to remain active and meet others in small groups (following social distance guidelines) and enjoy the good weather as long as it lasts.

2. ICCC community will be celebrating the Governor General's Award for Meritorious Service to Subhas and Uttra Bhargava, at the Friday ICCC Seniors Virtual meeting on Aug. 28, 2020. 3. Joining the Virtual Meetings:

As you may be aware that there are two virtual meetings a week available for ICCC seniors; one is on Thursdays hosted by me, and the other on Fridays, which Sudesh Kanda hosts. You may attend one or both the meetings.

If you have not downloaded Zoom Meeting, then please do so well in advance of the meeting. Five minutes prior to the start of the meeting, open Zoom and join by providing meeting ID and password given below or by using the respective links. Please note that if for some reason the meeting ends unexpectedly, login again using the link provided.

Thursday Meeting:

Last Thursday Meeting: Aug. 20, 2020

About 20 people joined for this meeting. In order that all members who want to sing a song or tell a joke get their chance, it was decided that the meeting duration be extended to 2 hours, especially when a presentation is planned.

It was decided that the presentation by Nand be postponed till the next meeting. The reason for that was that an interesting discussion developed about Kamala Harris, a nominee, for the Vice President position at the Democratic National Convention in the USA, where she portrayed herself as a 'woman of colour', and did not emphasized enough (for some members) her Indian heritage.

As mentioned above, the issue of holding our meeting in a park was discussed. We also enjoyed songs and jokes by various members.


This Thursday Meeting: Aug. 27, 2020

This meeting will be in two parts.

In the first part will last about 75 minutes. In it we will have our usual songs and poetry recital etc. Invariably, there will be some questions and discussion about how coronavirus could affect our lives in the months, and perhaps years, to come.

In the second part, Nand will make a presentation on the History of Secularism in India.

Please let me know well in advance, if you would like to make a presentation on some topic of common interest.
